Summary

The Robotics Manufacturing Hub (RMH) and  Innovation Accelerators strengthen manufacturing in Pittsburgh by supporting small and medium-sized manufacturers in adopting robotics and automation technologies. The RMH, through consultative visits, automation assessments, and proofs-of-concept, helps  companies determine if robotics can boost productivity. Additionally, six regional Innovation Accelerators - makerspaces and entrepreneurial labs - enhance local manufacturing by offering resources for prototyping, training, and support for startups.

Importance

Empowering smaller manufacturers to modernize and compete, increases local workforce skills, and fosters an innovative ecosystem is essential for regional economic development. Through this initiative, Pittsburgh strengthens its position as a leader in robotics and advanced manufacturing, creating sustainable, high-tech job opportunities and economic resilience.

Keystone Ridge Designs

Keystone Ridge Designs, based in Butler, PA, collaborated with the ARM Robotics Manufacturing Hub and Catalyst Connection to de-risk robotic grinding for their steel benches. After attending a workshop in February 2024, Keystone Ridge gained confidence to explore robotic grinding. They sent parts for testing to ARM Member PushCorp and conducted trials at ARM’s Mill19 lab, optimizing parameters for the desired finish. The project identified key system requirements, allowing ARM to provide a detailed requirements document and secure competitive quotes from integrators. Keystone Ridge ultimately selected a solution that aligned with their ROI goals.
